Our online learning platform presents the information in a clear, succinct, and interactive way, and allows you round-the-clock access to teaching material and recordings so you can access it and learn in your own time.
You will have access to lectures, seminars, clinical case discussions and online discussion groups, as well as printable material, video presentations, asynchronous case-based discussions, and open-forum sessions. The MSc is a collaboration between Barts Centre for Trauma Sciences (C4TS) and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. C4TS is a world-leading centre of excellence for translational research at Queen Mary. The centre focuses on the immediate post-injury phase, with research into the pathophysiology of injury and a pathway to ensure the translation of research into practice and into policy. Our primary clinical partner is The Royal London Hospital Major Trauma Centre, part of Barts Health NHS Trust. World class research is coupled with international education and dissemination programmes to improve care and outcomes of trauma patients worldwide. Queen Mary University of London is also part of the prestigious Russell Group - a body of leading UK universities dedicated to research and teaching excellence.
Barts Health NHS Trust is home to one of the capital's leading trauma and emergency care centres in the UK (approaching 1,000 attendances daily), Europe’s largest Trauma Centre, and Europe’s busiest Heart Centre. Much of our faculty are based at Barts Health for their clinical practice.
In April 2010, the greater London area became the first area of the UK to implement a regional trauma system for its population of 10 million people. This is known as the Pan London Major Trauma System. Major Trauma Centres such as The Royal London Hospital have resources available 24 hours a day to manage severely injured patients, while trauma units are responsible for the local management of patients with less severe injuries. Trauma systems provide a continuum of care for all injured patients within a geographical location. This ‘inclusive’ approach to trauma care involves collaboration between ambulance services, hospitals within the region, community providers and government.
AfterTrauma, developed by the Trauma Sciences team within the Centre for Neuroscience, Surgery and Trauma at the Blizard Institute, is the UK's first website and online forum dedicated to helping survivors of major trauma recover from their injuries and has had over 13,700 visitors. The website provides easy to understand information about injuries and treatment; financial, legal and advocacy services; and deals extensively with emotional and psychological impacts including post-traumatic stress. It was nominated for Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology in the Times Higher Education Awards in 2016.
