Summer School

The optional two-week residential summer school takes place at the end of the first year in London

In August 2022, the MSc in Trauma Sciences hosted the yearly Summer School event. Students from across the globe attended the two-week hands-on training course which included an international lecture series, interactive group exercises and world-renowned training in the field of trauma. Humanitarian speakers included Dr Swee Chai Ang and Professor Christos Giannou, with additional talks around difficult decisions in medicine and orthopaedic specialties. Training took place across London, UK at the Smith and Nephew head office where orthopaedic specialists took part in a variety of training while the trauma specialists took part in HEMS training, surgical training, and simulation training. The event is held yearly, and students are encouraged to attend should they enrol on the MSc’

The summer school will give you simulated scenario training to complement your learning. You will gain practical knowledge and experience of decision-making so you can deliver safe, professional core clinical functions in the management of seriously injured patients. This will concentrate on group projects, interactive workshops and training in subspecialty skills and simulation at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Barts Health Academy and The Royal London Hospital Major Trauma Centre. You will be responsible for your travel, accommodation and subsistence costs for the summer school.
