Our New MA History

Study the latest research methods and gain invaluable employability skills and workplace experience through our unique internship programme.

Our MA History is designed to be the most research intensive of its kind, with in-depth research skills and historiographical training. As well as core teaching, you will complete an advanced historical research project that equips them for masters’ level research.

Students are given the opportunity to specialise in one of several key subject streams including Global Britain, Decolonisation, the Medieval Islamic World and many more. After becoming a ‘Master in the field’ students will write a 12,000 word dissertation under the guidance of our expert academics.

Alongside core, research and pathway based academic work, all students take part in our MA History Internship module. This exciting module offers work experience in public history, heritage or related sectors. We also offer key employability skills training and reflective practice as part of the module.

This focus on your employability is reflected in how the MA History is scheduled. The timing of this programme means that dissertations are handed in early summer, facilitating entry into the summer jobs market and key graduate recruitment programmes.

“Designed by students, for students, this innovative new programme gives students the opportunity to specialise in their chosen field, working alongside our world-class historians. We look forward to working with you at Queen Mary”
