Dr Diego Perez LiebanaDr Diego Perez Leibana

Diego is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Coordinator for the MSc Artificial Intelligence course. He also teaches on the Artificial Intelligence in Games module. His research interests are centered on the application of AI to games and specifically to reinforcement learning and evolutionary computation. He's the main organiser of popular AI game-based competitions in the field, and serves as a reviewer in top conferences and journals. He has extensive experience in the video games industry, publishing titles for both PC and consoles, and developing several AI tools for games.


 

Professor Maria Liakatamaria liakata

Maria, a Professor in natural language processing, has received the Turing AI Fellowship Award for her work on combining language and user-generated content to assess mental well-being. Her research focuses on natural language processing (NLP), NLP for social and biomedical applications, analysis of multi-modal and heterogeneous data, the development of personalised longitudinal language processing, opinion mining and summarisation, rumour verification, biological text mining, computational semantics and scientific discourse analysis.

Matthew is a Professor of Computational Linguistics, and leader of Queen Mary's Computational Linguistics Laboratory. His research has covered many aspects of natural language processing, with a £4m grant portfolio including projects on fundamental techniques such as cross-lingual processing and incremental language understanding, as well as applications to news media, social media analysis and mental health diagnosis. His work has been covered by the Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, LA Times, NBC and Scientific American, among others. He is a Senior Researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia, and in 2011 he co-founded the company Chatterbox Labs Ltd. He is interested in supervising students with a background in NLP, linguistics or machine learning, and an interest in analysis or generation of natural language.
