The aim of this event is to inaugurate a political theory research network on the theme of ‘Pedagogies of Political Violence’. The workshop seeks to open up the discussion of three questions:
1. How do academic pedagogies of political violence relate to other ways in which we are taught about the phenomenon of political violence in news media, fiction and film?2. What political and ethical problems emerge out of existing pedagogies of violence inside and outside the academy?3. What would politically and ethically adequate pedagogic practices entail?
This event will bring together scholars working on issues related to how the concept and phenomenon of violence in politics is conceptualised and communicated in a variety of different contexts to a variety of different audiences in theory and practice. Speakers will include political theorists and colleagues working in war and security studies who are directly involved in teaching different aspects of political violence, including to professional audiences such as the military.
