Dr Lee Jones spoke to BBC Thailand about the visit of Thailand’s Prime Minister, Prayuth Chan-ocha, to the UK. He said: “I suspect the government believes that hosting Prayuth provides an avenue to raise concerns about the glacial pace of his so-called ‘reforms’ and push for elections at the earliest opportunity. Prayuth, on the other hand, presumably sees his European tour as a way to position himself as a sort of Thai version of Egypt’s General al Sisi, who can transition from military dictator to ‘elected’ prime minister and be seen by external powers as a ‘safe pair of hands’ – which he is anything but.”More »Dr Jones was also quoted in VOACambodia in an article titled ‘US sanctions Cambodian General over human rights abuses’
