In the corridors of Westminster, the race to be the next leader of the Conservative party has started. Sajid Javid’s promotion to home secretary has made him a contender, if he can survive the controversies facing his department. Tim Bale, Professor in Politics at Queen Mary, said Mr Javid’s elevation may have changed the dynamic among leadership hopefuls. “If someone looks like they are making moves, other potential candidates will be keen not to get left behind and this might explain why we’ve started to see ministers increasingly take to the airwaves.
