Chile elected delegates to draft a new constitution — and it’s not tilted toward the elites

Dr Javier Sajuria, Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Politics at Queen Mary University of London writes in the Washington Post on what it means for Chilean political parties with 40 percent of the votes in the Mid-May election going to independent candidates.
 
In doing so, citizens have defeated the traditional center-right and social democratic parties, long dominated by elites, which have shared power for 30 years.
