Democracy? Conspiracy? The perceptions of Chileans in a pandemic

Published:

Javier Sajuria, Senior Lecturer in Politics at Queen Mary has been featured in the South American newspaper Latercera about democracy in Chile and how the country has a fracture that divides the upper class from the rest of the country. He said: "The main risk of the realization that the country's class division deeply reaches political culture refers to its effects on the quality and sustainability of our democracy. When the upper class detaches itself from the rest, the door opens for the emergence of populist figures who mobilise the fears and resentments of the majorities to support authoritarian drifts."

This was covered in the South American paper Latercera
