The department has a particularly strong interest in the field of French Politics.
The main area of departmental interest is the politics of contemporary France (Fifth Republic). Raymond Kuhn has written widely in this field, with particular focus on the executive, political leadership, elections and political communication. Professor Kuhn is currently on the editorial board of the research journal Modern & Contemporary France, one of the leading interdisciplinary journals on French studies in the UK.
Rainbow Murray works on French political parties, elections and candidate selection, with a particular emphasis on gender. She has written numerous papers and journal articles regarding women in French politics and is editing a special edition of French Politics on electoral forecasting.
Françoise Boucek has written about French political parties, elections and electoral systems, and industrial policy and she is a regular commentator on French politics in the media (print and broadcast).
Queen Mary is part of the consortium which manages the University of London Institute in Paris. This gives our research students with an interest in France an unrivalled opportunity to make use of a facility based in the heart of Paris.
