The Research Group on International Political Sociology (RGIPS) explores international, political and social phenomena through a transdisciplinary lens that dialogues with fields such as micro-sociology, global historical sociology, political sociology, sociolegal studies, and international relations.
RGIPS is especially interested in transdisciplinary research on borders, boundaries, and limits that problematises neat dichotomies such as national/international, state/society, space/time, human/nonhuman, rationality/affect, and war/peace. To rethink and experiment with transversal conceptions and methodologies, the group organises, among other things, an annual PhD Seminar Series and a Spring Symposium. It also hosts ‘Polyphonic Encounters in IPS’, a series of externally facing events that includes roundtables, book-launches, and workshops.
Our researchers in the School of Politics and International Relations also established and currently lead the DoingIPS transnational research hub, which consists of research nodes and partner networks in Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. RGIPS also supports research-led IPS teaching by supporting the new MA in IPS and connecting students from this programme to its research activities.
