Profile
I joined the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) in November 2023. Prior to this, I was an ESRC postdoctoral fellow in the International Relations Department at LSE and have also taught at SOAS and QMUL. I received my ESRC-funded PhD from SOAS’ Department of Politics and International Studies in 2022.
My Leverhulme-funded historical project investigates race and racism in the trans-oceanic circuits of the Arabian Peninsula’s pearl and early oil industries.
I am also in the process of turning my PhD research into a book, currently titled ‘Constructing Culture: Art, Race, and Capitalism on the Arabian Peninsula’.
Alongside my SPIR colleague Sharri Plonski, I am co-creator and executive producer of the podcast series ‘Surviving Society Presents: Material Crimes’. A collaboration with the radical sociology podcast Surviving Society, ‘Material Crimes’ tells stories of infrastructure, colonialism, racism and resistance for non-academic audiences.
