Pushing the boundaries of education
We understand the importance of giving students opportunities to learn by doing to complement their academic studies.
In our 5-stage flipped classroom approach, students:
- Read the programme handbook.
- Learn from the pre-training videos.
- Develop skills in the interactive training sessions.
- Hone the skills working with clients, under the supervision of expert practitioners.
- Reflect on what they have learned.
Students work within a supportive learning environment that embraces peer learning, cocreation, new technologies and interdisciplinary working. qLegal is a founder member of Queen Mary’s SKETCH initiative, in which students from across Queen Mary’s schools solve clients’ problems together.
qLegal was one of the first commercial law clinics in the UK when it was founded in 2013. We regularly share our experiences and expertise with the clinical legal education and research community, including:
- Helping other commercial law clinics develop, both in the UK (Nottingham Trent and Ulster Universities) and overseas (Strathmore University in Kenya).
- Contributing to academic journals and speaking at conferences (including teaching law students to think like entrepreneurs and promoting positive mental health in postgraduate law students.
- Conducting research on innovation in legal practice, such as an Accenture- funded research project on “Re-designing complex contracts: integrating business relationships and law”.
