End Point Assessment

What is the End Point Assessment?

End-point assessment (EPA) is the final stage of an apprenticeship. It is an impartial assessment of whether an apprentice has developed the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.

End Point Assessment plan

The requirements for End Point Assessment are different for each occupational standard and these are set out in the apprenticeship’s EPA plan. These requirements must be followed when designing and delivering the EPA.

The EPA plan sets out the requirements and assessment methods which should be used to assess the learner. This may include, for example, multiple choice tests, evidence portfolios, observations on the learner’s practical skills, professional discussions, projects carried out in the workplace, portfolio-based interviews and project presentations.

Independent Assessors

EPAs should include an independent assessor who is working in - or has sufficient knowledge of - the occupation. They are expected to understand the occupational standard and EPA plan and to assess the apprentice against the KSBs and in accordance with the EPA plan.
