Your documents

Throughout your time at Queen Mary you are given access to a range of documentation via Gradintelligence, if these documents do not suffice the following page will list further options.

Request a letter

If you need to prove that you are currently a student at Queen Mary University of London, you can access your Student Status Letter from your Gradintelligence account. This can be shared electronically via a secure and verified platform. Alternatively you can download or print it out. This letter can be used to confirm your student status for many purposes, such as opening a bank account, council tax exemption applications, and visa applications.

New students* are sent an account activation email from Gradintelligence shortly after becoming fully enrolled and will be able to access the Student Status Letter once the activation steps have been completed. If you are a new student and are temporarily enrolled, you will not have access.

Once we have registered you for an account, you will receive an email to your QMUL email address from accountregistration@gradintel.com. Follow the steps in order to access your Gradintelligence dashboard. Please look at our step-by-step guide can be found on our Accessing your Student Status Letter webpage.

Award letter

You will receive an award letter after the degree has been ratified at a Board, which are held monthly. You will also be able to access an Award letter via your Grandintelligence account, this letter functions as proof of completion and can be securely shared with third parties via the secure share token function within Gradintelligence. If you require a bespoke Award letter please contact researchdegrees@qmul.ac.uk to see if we can accommodate your request.

Council Tax

We understand you may be asked for a bespoke document for Council Tax exemption. The student status letter is designed for this purpose and is widely accepted by councils. Councils will look at your registered term-time address, which is logged through MySIS. You must keep this up-to-date, as councils evaluate your eligibility based on your term-time address.

Please Note: Queen Mary holds agreements with Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest Councils to send reports of enrolled students directly to them. This may require further registration on your end, please see our  Council Tax webpage for more information on this.

Degree Certificate

Postgraduate Research students (i.e. PhD students) are awarded monthly. The degree certificate will be posted to the results address in MySIS within 3 months of the date you were notified of your award and will not be presented during the Graduation Ceremony. For more information on this process please see our dedicated Degree Certificate Webpage.

Please contact researchdegrees@qmul.ac.uk if three months have passed and you have not received your certificate. Please note that you must contact us within six months to tell us if your certificate has not arrived so that we can look into the issue and provide you with a free replacement document where necessary. If you contact us after six months have passed, then it is likely you will need to purchase a replacement.
