Learning engagement

Find out more about the Learning Engagement Policy and what it means for you.

The Student Learning Engagement Policy outlines how the university will use data about your engagement in teaching and learning to ensure you receive the necessary support for academic success and a positive student experience. By using this data, the university can identify areas where you may be at risk of not reaching your full academic potential and require extra support, and identify wellbeing needs and offer support for those too. This also helps the university ensure we are teaching you in the right ways to help you succeed.

Your engagement can be measured in a few different ways and will depend on your programme. Some of the main ways your programme will analyse your engagement are:

  • Through your attendance at physical or virtual teaching events
  • Assignment submissions
  • Utilisation of learning platforms like QMPlus
  • Participation in scheduled meetings with staff members

If the university is worried about you, they will be supportive and constructive to identify the support you need. This may be through additional meetings with school staff or referrals to the university's wellbeing services.

The purpose of this policy and support from your school will always be to prioritise your wellbeing and academic potential.

Why we monitor your engagement

We want you to have a positive learning experience.  It is important that you engage with your studies by attending learning on campus and participating in learning online.

We monitor your engagement to help us identify if you may be at risk of not progressing and to provide interventions and support.

How we monitor your engagement

Your School or Institute will determine the most appropriate measures for monitoring the engagement for your programme.  This could include your attendance, assignment submissions, use of QMplus and meetings with staff.

You can find the details for your programme in your Student Handbook.

Where can I get help or advice?

If you have any questions or you want to talk about issues impacting your studies, you can contact your Advisor or the Student Support Officer or contact in your School or Institute.
