Undergraduate scholarships

Queen Mary offers a range of Undergraduate Scholarships for new students enrolling in September 2024

These are competitive scholarships which you may be eligible for. They are in addition to the Queen Mary Bursary and to see more information about the Queen Mary Bursary visit our webpage here: Queen Mary Bursary.

When will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship?

Students will be informed of the outcome of their application via the MySIS portal by the end of the first semester.  If your application is shortlisted and forwarded for a final decision by an external Trust or Foundation which is providing the funding for a scholarship, you will be informed of this. In these cases, we expect to have a decision from the Trust or Foundation during the second semester and you will be informed as soon as we hear from them.

How do I apply?

Applications open on Monday 16th September. All applications need to come via the Scholarships and Bursaries section of MySIS, the online application screens will give you further guidance on how they should be completed. 

  1. Log in to your MySIS portal and go to the Scholarships and Bursaries page (click More Options... if not visible)
  2. Click on ‘Apply for Scholarship or Bursary’
  3. Select ‘Undergraduate Scholarships’ from the funding type dropdown and complete the online application screens
  4. Make sure you click the ‘Submit’ button on the final screen

Closing Date: Friday 1st November

Queen Mary Annual Fund Scholarships

Ten Queen Mary Annual Fund Scholarships are available, subject to confirmation, they are for £1250 a year and will be payable for 3 years subject to satisfactory academic progress.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident in the City of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Newham or the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years or students who attended the Drapers' Academy Sixth Form in the London Borough of Havering.
  • Have been assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) as having a household income of £42,875 a year or less. You do not need to take any loans if you do not wish to do so but you must have a full income assessment by SFE so that we can verify your household income figure and eligibility for one of these scholarships.
  • Be enrolled on a course in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Sally Sainsbury History Scholarships

Three scholarships are available, they are for £1250 a year and will be payable for 3 years subject to satisfactory academic progress.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled on a degree programme in the School of History
  • Be a permanent resident in the City of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Newham or the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years
  • Have been assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) as having a household income of £42,875 a year or less. You do not need to take any loans if you do not wish to do so  but you must have a full income assessment by SFE so that we can verify your household income figure and eligibility for one of these scholarships.

William Spilsbury Scholarships

Four scholarships are available, they are for £1250 a year and will be payable for 3 or 4 academic years subject to satisfactory academic progress.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident in the City of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Newham or the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years.
  • Have been assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) as having a household income of £42,875 a year or less. You do not need to take any loans if you do not wish to do so but you must have a full income assessment by SFE so that we can verify your household income figure and eligibility for one of these scholarships.
  • Be enrolled on a course in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation Scholarships

Queen Mary has been granted ten scholarships by the Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation. The scholarships are for £1250 a year and will be payable for 3 years subject to satisfactory academic progress. 

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be aged under 25 at the start of the course
  • Be a permanent resident in the City of London or the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and have lived there for at least three years 
  • Have been assessed by Student Finance England (SFE) as having a household income of £42,875 a year or less. You do not need to take any loans if you do not wish to do so but you must have a full income assessment by SFE so that we can verify your household income figure and eligibility for one of these scholarships.

Derek Shuttleworth Educational Trust Scholarship

One scholarship is available for £1000 a year,  to be confirmed, and will be payable for 3 years subject to satisfactory academic progress. To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident in the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years.
  • Have been assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of £42,875 a year or less.  You do not need to take any loans if you do not wish to do so but you must have a full income assessment by SFE so that we can verify your household income figure and eligibility for one of these scholarships.

You will be considered for each of the awards for which you meet the criteria specified, however if your application is successful you will only be made one award. Final decisions on scholarship applications will be taken by the organisations which are providing the funding.
