Improving the Quality of Information in Fertility Care

Welcome to the website for the research project "Improving the Quality of Information in Fertility Care" funded by the QMUL Impact Fund. Led by Dr. Manuela Perrotta, in collaboration with Dr. Marcin Smietana as the Post-Doctoral Research Associate, and in partnership with The Fertility Network UK, this project aims to address a pressing issue in the field of fertility care.

Despite the lack of proven effectiveness, potential risks, and high costs associated with additional treatments, also known as add-ons, over 70% of the 50,000+ patients undergoing fertility treatment in the UK opt for these treatments. Unfortunately, the available information about these add-ons is often inadequate, misleading, or insufficient, making it challenging for patients to make informed decisions about their care, particularly in a highly privatised sector.

The primary objective of this project is to improve the quality of information on add-ons, ensuring that patients have access to accurate, comprehensive, and reliable information that empowers them to make well-informed decisions about their fertility treatment journey. By mobilising supporters and engaging with stakeholders, we aim to identify the current gaps and challenges in the information available on add-ons and develop strategies for improvement, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of fertility patients.

We encourage you to explore this website to learn more about our project, research findings, and upcoming events. By joining us and becoming part of our community, you can contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of information in fertility care. Together, we can drive positive changes, support informed decision-making, and ensure the best possible outcomes for fertility patients.

Thank you for your interest in our research project. We look forward to your active participation and collaboration in this important endeavour. To get in touch please contact m.perrotta@qmul.ac.uk.
