Early Career Researcher Award 2024 Winners

Awarded to an ECR from any discipline or department in Queen Mary whose early achievements have already had a significant influence on their academic field.

Winner: Yuanwei Liu

Dr Liu’s research focuses on simultaneous transmission and reflection surfaces , and he is the Principal Investigator of the STAR laboratory at QMUL. He is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in  School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

Yuanwei’s application was singled out for his outstanding academic achievements, even in a competitive year for the ECR category. The lab he has founded is at the forefront of a global RDI agenda. The panel were also extremely impressed by the degree to which he has achieved this while clearly going above and beyond to create a more inclusive and supportive environment in engineering research and development, and in nurturing emerging talent in his School.

Colm Murphy (PIR, HSS), Lecturer in British Politics, Deputy Director of the Mile End Institute. Highly Commended by the panel for his high-performing monograph, and strong and emerging record of policy and political engagement.

Layli Uddin (PIR, HSS), Lecturer in Politics and International Relations of South Asia. Highly Commended by the panel for her pioneering public histories and community empowerment activities in Bangladesh and Tower Hamlets.
