Time: 12:30 - 1:30pm Speaker: Dr Silvia Vignolini, University of CambridgeVenue: Fogg Lecture Theatre, Fogg Building
In this RSC Gibson-Fawcett Award Lecture, Dr Silvia Vignolini of University of Cambridge will deliver a talk on ‘Bio-inspired Photonics: from nature to applications'.
Dr Vignolini's research aims to elucidate the design principles that underlie the evolution of natural photonic structures by studying their assembly and optical response. Inspired by nature, her group develops tools to fabricate artificial photonic structures using natural materials. The outcome of their research activity will pave the way to the production of low cost, biodegradable novel materials, which could replace traditional, potentially hazardous colorants used industrially for different applications, such as cosmetics, textiles and security labelling.
This lecture is open to all.
