Researchers in the SBCS have found evidence that a genetic accident more than 500 million years ago may help us understand diabetes. Led by Professor Maurice Elphick, the discovery could help to explain a rare form of the disease that causes sufferers to urinate in excess of three litres a day. Professor Elphick said: “I have discovered that marine animals, like sea urchins and acorn worms, produce NG peptides in much the same way to how our brain cells produce vasopressin.” See the article in Red Orbit.
