Hickinbottom Research Symposium

The 10th Hickinbottom Research Symposium is taking place at Queen Mary University of London on Friday 15th April 2016. The event is aimed at past and present postgraduates and researchers in chemistry at Queen Mary.

The programme includes a number of talks by past researchers, followed by a poster session (with wine) given by present research students on the first floor of the Joseph Priestley building, followed by an informal buffet supper in the Octagon.

Below is a guide for the day; you can also download the full programme [DOC 3KB]:

  • 13.45-14.20: Registration (lobby, Francis Bancroft Building)
  • 14.25: Welcome (David Sizer Lecture Theatre)
  • 14:30-16.00: Speakers - full details TBC (David Sizer Lecture Theatre)
  • 16:00-16:45: Refreshments (lobby, Francis Bancroft Building)
  • 16:45-17:45: Speakers - full details TBC (David Sizer Lecture Theatre)
  • 17:45-18:45: Poster session (with wine) (Joseph Priestley Building)
  • 19.00-21.00: Buffet supper (Octagon)

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The meeting is subsidised from the interest on a fund collected in memory of Hickinbottom in 1982. Recent decreases in global interest rates mean  we have to increase the registration fee to £30 for alumni, staff and postdoctoral researchers. Research students will be able to attend at the subsidised rate of £10 per person.

The Hickinbottom Symposium is a stimulating and enjoyable event, and a great opportunity for networking with people who have been through Queen Mary. Check back here soon for the full programme and online registration. You can also email Professor Geoff Hawkes if you have any questions.

If you prefer to register by post, send a cheque (payable to Queen Mary University of London) to Professor G E Hawkes, Joseph Priestley Building, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS), along with your full name, postal address and email address. We would also like the following information: the year you started chemical research at QMC/Westfield/QMW/QMUL, and the year you finished there; your supervisor during that time; your present position, or if retired, your last position.
