Profile

Bio: Dr. Bogachan Tahirbegi is a Research Associate in the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences at Queen Mary University of London. He obtained his PhD from the University of Barcelona, Spain, where he worked on amyloid-β interactions with metal nanoparticles and their effects on neuronal cultures, contributing to our understanding of neurotoxicity and proteostasis dysregulation in Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Tahirbegi’s broad research interests include protein aggregation, lipid-protein interactions, biosensors, and advanced imaging technologies. His research contributions are reflected in high-impact publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Communications and Biosensors and Bioelectronics.

Project: Dr. Tahirbegi joined Queen Mary University of London in 2024, where his current research focuses on the interactions of amyloid fibrils and oligomers with lipid membranes in Alzheimer’s disease. He investigates curvilinear and annular amyloid structures and their interactions with exosomes and whole cells, employing advanced biophysical techniques such as AFM and TEM. His work also encompasses amyloid kinetics and methodologies such as ThT fluorescence assays, and calcium imaging.
