Profile

Bio: Nouran earned her PhD in 2022 in Molecular and Chemical Life Sciences from Tohoku University, Japan. Her master's and doctoral research primarily focused on protein engineering of pore-forming toxins in Staphylococcus aureus. During the final two years of her PhD, she was awarded a grant as a Junior Research Associate at the RIKEN Research Institute in Yokohama, Japan. At RIKEN, her research concentrated on cryo-electron microscopy single-particle analysis and the biochemistry of membrane proteins.

Project: In late 2022, Nouran joined Queen Mary University as a BBSRC-funded postdoctoral researcher. Her current work focuses on elucidating the structure of the type 2 secretion system membrane protein complex in Gram-negative bacteria using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to uncover its mechanism of action.
