Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics

The Department of Business Analytics and Applied Economics (BAAE) at SBM focuses on three key research areas: Applied Economics, covering economic policy, international business, and development; Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics, exploring AI-driven decision-making, innovation, and advanced analytics methods; and Operations and Management Science, addressing efficiency, sustainability, resilience and environmental challenges in business processes and networks.

Our core values are research and education excellence.  Our faculty conducts cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research on business analytics and applied economics that informs our teaching, providing students with the most relevant and up-to-date skills. Our research has been published in world-leading journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Economic Geography, Journal of Operations Management, Management Science, New England Journal of Medicine, Research Policy, and World Development. Academics and PhD students from our Department lead two prolific research units: the Centre for Globalisation Research (CGR) and the Computational and Quantitative Methods (CQM) research group.
