If you want an experience that mirrors the real business world, the Capstone Project module is an exceptional choice. For me, taking this Contemporary Live Project wasn't just a report to be completed; it was an invaluable opportunity to transition into the real world of business and innovation. The module exceeded my expectations, providing me with all the guidance, tools, and insights needed to succeed in my master's programme.
I had the privilege of working with Farrell Associates, an Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) recruitment firm specializing in Financial Services. Despite being a small team, Farrell Associates has big aspirations and ambitious goals. They work with a diverse range of clients, from well-known corporations to startups. I was inspired by their achievements and vision, finding common ground with their mission to make a positive contribution, even though my career path started in a different field, visual communications. However, they encouraged me to leverage my creativity on the project, which allowed me to create innovative solutions to their challenges and add my knowldge gained from the masters’ program the business field. Farrell Associates provided me with an unforgettable experience, including the opportunity to interview some of their clients, ranging from CEOs of well-known companies like HSBC to executives of small, ambitious organizations. Each interview provided unique insights that helped shape innovative solutions.

Challenging myself to delve into the financial world, I worked on producing a solution to the challenge provided by Farrell Associates. What truly stood out was how they encouraged me to use my creative side, which led to the development of an innovative application to enhance the onboarding process for newly hired managers within the financial sector (one of the challenges of financial organizations). I was excited that the innovative solution I developed after extensive research, real-life case studies, and interviews was making an impact. I was thrilled when the clients expressed interest in further discussing the application to bring it to life even after the module had ended.
Throughout this journey, we were guided by the most outstanding and professional professors who supported us every step of the way. They introduced us to the module and our clients, providing continuous feedback on how we could refine our research and exceed client expectations. Hearing the clients say “You achieved more than we expected” after the final presentation, was evidence of the hard work and dedication presented by our team and the encouragement from the professor.
I was also fortunate to work alongside intelligent and supportive students from diverse backgrounds, each one offered a unique perspective that enriched the project. They provided motivation and support, making the experience even more productive and enjoyable.
My advice to future MSc students is to approach this opportunity with confidence and never doubt your abilities. Regardless of your background, your contributions can make a significant difference. As an international student with a creative background, the MSc courses provided me with a fulfilling foundation that I could effectively apply to the contemporary live project.
