Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, has been honoured at the UK Social Mobility Awards 2024. The recognition highlights the University’s mission to support diverse students from all backgrounds, a commitment represented by our alumnus Juned Miah.
Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, has received the Outstanding Contribution award at the 2024 UK Social Mobility Awards (SOMOs). This accolade acknowledges his leadership in establishing Queen Mary as a leader in social mobility, offering students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to succeed through education. The event was also attended by the School of Business and Management’s alumnus, Juned Miah, along with Professor Ishani Chandrasekara, who has a strong connection to social mobility and stands as a testament to the University's positive impact.
Our distinguished alumnus, Juned Miah, who graduated with a BSc in Accounting and Management from the School of Business and Management, shared how Queen Mary helped transform his life. Miah, whose parents moved to the UK from Bangladesh, grew up in poverty and faced significant challenges in life.
Reflecting on his experience, he said: “The university is known to be very diverse and that’s one thing I really love… they don’t care about your background.”
Juned shared his inspiring journey of resilience, supported by the University’s dedication to social mobility. From overcoming hardhsips to becoming a successful graduate analyst at BNP Paribas, a large international investment bank, his story embodies the spirit of opportunity that Queen Mary stands for.
