10 YEARS OF BREXIT: ECONOMIC IMPACTS AND LESSONS LEARNED

The Centre for Globalisation Research at Queen Mary University of London is pleased to invite submissions for the upcoming CGR Annual Globalisation Workshop, "10 Years of Brexit: Economic Impacts and Lessons Learned". In marking the 10th anniversary of the Conservative election victory that ushered in the era of Brexit, this workshop aims to bring together leading scholars to reflect on the economic consequences of Brexit, assess the accuracy of earlier forecasts, and explore future challenges and opportunities for the UK and the EU.

As part of the CGR Annual Globalisation Workshop, one of the presentations will be by Professor Nick Bloom (Stanford University), discussing the long-term economic impacts of Brexit on firm investment and productivity.

The workshop will take place on the 15th of May, 2025, at Queen Mary University of London, UK.

Topics of interest

We welcome theoretical and empirical contributions on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Labour market effects and migration patterns post-Brexit
  • Investment, productivity, and innovation trends since Brexit
  • The impact of Brexit on regional disparities and economic inequality  Political economy implications of Brexit
  • Brexit’s effect on policy frameworks (e.g., trade, competition, and industrial policy)   
  • Macroeconomic and trade impacts of Brexit on the UK, EU, US and global economy  Changes in financial markets and the role of the City of London
  • Lessons from Brexit for other countries considering political or economic separation

Submission guidelines

  • Submissions should include a full paper.
  • Please submit your paper via this form by March 30, 2025.
  • All papers should include a comprehensive conflict of interest statement that describes any financial or other interests that the researchers might have about their paper.

Authors of selected papers will be notified by mid-April.
Limited funding may be available to cover part of travel and accommodation costs for presenters.
