Project title

How does the interaction of immigration inflow and artificial intelligence impact income inequality in the United Kingdom?

Project description

The interplay between immigration inflows and artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the dynamics of the labour market, with significant implications for income inequality in the United Kingdom. This research examines how the interaction between these two forces influences wage distribution, job displacement, and labour market segmentation across different skill levels and industries.

As AI-driven automation alters the demand for labour, particularly in sectors traditionally reliant on immigrant workers, the study explores whether technological advancements exacerbate or mitigate wage disparities. Additionally, it investigates the extent to which immigration inflows complement or compete with AI technologies in shaping employment opportunities and earnings potential. By integrating economic theory with empirical analysis, the research aims to assess how these factors jointly contribute to income inequality, considering variables such as occupational skill levels, regional disparities, and policy interventions.

This study contributes to the broader discourse on the future of work, economic mobility, and social equity, providing evidence-based insights for policymakers, businesses, and labour market stakeholders. The findings will inform discussions on the role of immigration policy and AI governance in fostering inclusive economic growth and reducing inequalities in the UK labour market.
