Biography
Leo Feijo is a PhD candidate at the School of Business and Management. Leo’s academic career includes a master’s degree (MA) in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship from Goldsmiths, University of London. His current research interests are the music industry, social mobility, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the workplace, music and migration.
Leo was born in Rio and moved to London in 2019. He is an experienced project manager and cultural entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience in the Higher Education and the Public Sector. His experience includes organisations such as King's College London (KCL) and the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He was Undersecretary of Culture in the State of Rio de Janeiro between 2016 and 2018, in addition to having managed incubators for creative startups. Leo founded cultural centres and acted as events and arts manager.
Leo have participated in several international conferences. In 2012 and 2018 he was invited by the British Council to visit London for cultural exchange meetings and guest speaker at DICE Workshop (Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies).
Project title
Music and migrants: navigating the city through Afro-Iberian-Latin voices of Lusophone heritage.
Project description
The project aims to address issues related to the labour market and social mobility based on the reality of Afro-Ibero-Latin musicians and songwriters of Lusophone heritage who leave their countries in search of opportunities and how this has impacted their lives and careers. Historical factors and the current reality of the music industry in the streaming era will be researched to understand the challenges of migration to London and the presence of Lusophone music in the world..

Diversity in the Music Industry (2022)
Book published in 2022 on diversity in music companies in Brazil, in comparison with the reality in the UK and the United States.
75 industry professionals and executives were interviewed, in addition to using an extensive bibliography on the topic. Published in Brazil by Dialetica. Pages: 128.
Rio: A Nightlife History (2014)
The book written by Leo Feijó and Marcus Wagner and illustrated with more than 100 images presents a Social History of Music in Rio de Janeiro, since the arrival of the Portuguese Royal Family in 1808. The work presents social and cultural aspects throughout 200 years, from 1808 to the 1990s. Published in Brazil by Leya. Pages: 384.
