SBM in Action is an immersive, virtual employability programme designed to help you develop professional skills and gain real-world business experience. This three-week industry project will prepare you for the workplace through hands-on collaboration with real businesses.

What to expect

We are offering 100 students the opportunity to take part in this fully virtual programme, delivered in partnership with leading tech company Practera.

You’ll work as part of a student consultancy team, tackling a real business challenge and delivering insights that make a difference. With guidance from an experienced Professional Mentor, you’ll gain key employability skills that set you apart.


How it works

This programme takes place between the 16th of June until the 7th of July 2025.
The application deadline is 11:59pm on the 2nd of June 2025.

As a Student Consultant, you will:

  • Work as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.
  • Dedicate 50 hours over three weeks (16 June – 7 July).
  • Attend Student Orientation on Wednesday 11 June, 1–2:15pm.
  • Join the Project Briefing with your Client on Monday 16 June, 1–2:15pm.
  • Conduct research, collaborate with your team, and present findings in a professional report.

How to apply

  1. Complete the application form before 11:59pm on Monday 2nd June 2025.
  2. Receive confirmation of your place -via an email from Practera
  3. Join the Practera-hosted Orientation and meet your team.
  4. Engage with your Industry Client and work on your project.
  5. Attend weekly team meetings and receive feedback from your professional mentor.
  6. Deliver your final presentation and submit a tailored research report.

FAQs

You need to complete your application form by 11.59pm on Friday 2nd of June 2025. You will then receive an email from the university confirming your place or letting you know if you have been placed on the waiting list.

You will receive a digital badge to add to your LinkedIn upon full completion of the industry project.

No, you will be assigned to a team and project, but we will consider your project preferences where possible. We ensure clients submit projects that are interesting and achievable within the programme timeframe.

No, all teams will be assigned to allow for diversity.

No, you will not be paid to work on this project. This is first and foremost a learning experience.

It is fine to take part in the project if you have a part-time job. You will need to make sure you can commit 50 hours over the 3 weeks. Coordinate with your team to ensure that you’re able to attend meetings and contribute equally to all deliverables.

The orientation and briefing sessions are compulsory. Students who do not attend will be removed from the programme, unless you have emailed Practera ahead to inform them of a valid reason.

Following confirmation from the university of your place on the programme, you will receive a welcome email and calendar invitations from Practera. You will be onboarded on to the platform two weeks ahead of Orientation to complete your enrolment.

There will be lots of different projects. They may be connected to Growth Strategy, Digital Marketing, Sustainable Impact, International Business or AI Strategy. The projects are structured in a way where you do not need specific technical knowledge. You will specify your preferred choice in your application form.

There will be opportunities to connect with industry partners both in the UK and abroad, and companies taking part range from charities, start-ups to major corporate businesses.
