For Current Mentors (2024/2025)

Please find below answers to frequently asked questions. If you have further queries, please contact the SBM Mentoring Team.

When does SBM Mentoring run?

This year's cycle runs from November 2024 - April 2025.

How often should I meet my mentee?

You and your mentee can arrange up to six sessions over the six-month programme. These sessions can be in-person, online, or via phone call. While we recommend one session per month, you have flexibility to adjust the frequency. The key is to complete all six sessions by April.

How long should each session be?

The ideal length for a mentoring session should be approximately 1 hour.

What are my responsibilities as a mentor?

Please see ‘Mentor-Mentee Responsibilities’ document for information.

What topics could we cover in the sessions?

You can discuss the following: Goal Setting, CV and Application writing, Interview Preparation, Commercial Awareness etc.

However, it is the responsibility of the mentee to decide the topic of the mentoring session.

What resources can I use as a mentor?

Please find some of the resources which you may find useful:

My mentee is struggling with a non career-related issue. What should I do?

While the focus of SBM Mentoring is on career employability, we understand that personal challenges can arise. If your mentee raises concerns outside your scope, please contact the SBM Mentoring Team. We'll connect them with relevant support.

What if I encounter challenges with my mentee?

While uncommon, challenges including communication issues, attendance concerns and a lack of engagement can arise. We take mentee commitment seriously. Please contact the SBM Mentoring Team.

I can no longer be a mentor. What should I do?

If your circumstances have changed and you can no longer fulfill your commitment as a mentor, contact the SBM Mentoring Team. It is crucial to notify us as soon as possible.

Important Note: Withdrawing from the programme without communication will result in ineligibility for future applications. Additionally, if you work at JP Morgan, we will report this to the JP Morgan Point of Contact.
