Becoming a Mentor

What is SBM Career Mentoring?

MentoringSBM Career Mentoring connects undergraduate students from the School of Business and Management with a member of our alumni community or an experienced working professional. Through these one-to-one relationships, students are supported to make better informed career choices, develop their employability skills, and gain confidence with applying for graduate job roles.

As a Mentor, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain personal satisfaction from helping a young person with their career development.
  • Reflect on your own work practices and hear fresh perspectives from those who are soon-to-be entering your industry.
  • Enhance your professional development and acquire new skills such as, leadership and communication.

It has been a really enriching and grounding experience. My mentee was such a pleasant young lady. It is lovely to help others grow and also learn from them. The ability to help another young black woman see her worth in different facets, provide her with support no matter how minute it may seem, has been priceless.
— Teso (Mentor), TU Publishing and Consulting
It was really interesting and rewarding, it was quite nice helping out someone as they are just starting their career. Also they had quite a different perspective on things and challenged me on some things linked to the professional world I just assumed.
