Undergraduate bursaries for 2018-19

Bursaries 2018/19

Bursaries are monetary awards that we offer to students who cannot afford to pay full fees. These are 'means-tested' which are available to (home) students whose parents earn under a threshold value per annum.

 

Bursary / scholarship Value Eligibility

Queen Mary University of London Bursary 2018-19

  • £1,700 per year if your household income is £15,000 or less, or
  • £750 per year if your household income is between £15,001 and £30,000
  • You will be automatically assessed for this bursary using the information you provide to Student Finance England (or equivalent)

Queen Mary and Westfield Alumni Bursary 2018-19

  • £1,250 per year for three years
  • Six bursaries are available
  • You must have enrolled in September 2018 and be in the first year of your course in either the Faculty of Science and Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • You must be a permanent resident in the City of London, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Newham or the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years
  • You must have been assessed by Student Finance as having a residual household income of £42,875 a year or less.
  • You will have to make an application to be considered for one of the Queen Mary and Westfield Alumni Bursaries and application forms will be available after September 2018 enrolment

Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation Bursary 2018-19

 

  • £1,250 per year for three years
  • For 2018-19 entry students ten scholarships will be available, subject to confirmation
  • You must have enrolled in September 2018 and be in the first year of your course
  • You must be under 25 years old at the start of the course
  • You must be a permanent resident in the City of London or London Borough of Tower Hamlets and have lived there for at least three years
  • You must be assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of £42,875 or less
  • You will have to make an application to be considered for one of the Aldgate and Allhallows Foundation Scholarships and application forms will be available after September 2018 enrolment

Sally Sainsbury History Bursary 2018-19

 

  • £1,250 per year for three years
  • For 2018-19 entry students three scholarships will be available
  • You must have enrolled in September 2018 and be in the first year of your course in the School of History
  • You must be a permanent resident in the City of London, London Borough of Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Newham or the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years
  • You must be assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of £42,875 or less
  • You will have to make an application to be considered for one of the Sally Sainsbury History Scholarships and application forms will be available after September 2018 enrolment
Unite Foundation Bursary 2018-19
  • Accommodation for up to 3 years of your studies at Rahere Court
  • You must be aged 25 or under on 1 September 2018
  • You must be a UK home fee status student i.e. not an international student 
  • You must be studying at or holding a first choice offer from Queen Mary University of London
  • You must be undertaking your first and only course of undergraduate study i.e. you have not been to this or another university previously
  • You must be in receipt of or applying for student finance
  • You must be a care leaver or estranged from your parent(s)

Derek Shuttleworth Educational Trust Bursary 2018-19

  • £1,000 per year for three years
  • For 2018-19 entry students one scholarship will be available, subject to confirmation
  • You must have enrolled in September 2018 and be in the first year of your course
  • You must be a permanent resident in the London Borough of Hackney and have lived there for at least three years
  • You must be assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of £42,875 or less
  • You will have to make an application to be considered for the Derek Shuttleworth Scholarship and application forms will be available after September 2018 enrolment
The Steel Charitable Trust Bursary
  • £18,000 (split over three-years based on progression criteria)
  • The Steel Charitable Trust are offering one UG scholarship for 2018 entry
  • You must have selected QMUL as your firm choice
  • You must be a permanent resident in Luton
  • You must be assessed by Student Finance England as having a household income of £42,875 or less
  • Applications will open in March 2018 for the Steel Charity Trust Scholarship and results announced early July 2018
  • You must have enrolled in September 2018 and be in the first year of your course in order to receive this scholarship
  • The fee will be paid as cash
  • Student must achieve 60% + in order to continue the scholarship for the forthcoming years.

 

Funding for Asylum Seekers

Scholarship Value Eligibility
Article 26 Bursary 2018/19
  • £1,700 QMUL Bursary per year
  • £7,324 living cost grant per year for those living in a parental home
  • Full fee waiver

or

£11,354 living cost grant for those living independently

 

  • For 2018-19 two awards will be available
  • You must be an asylum seeker, the child of an asylum seeker or hold Discretionary Leave to Remain
  • You must be ineligible to obtain funding from the Student Loan Company
  • You must have firmly accepted a place on an undergraduate course in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • You must not already hold an equivalent or higher qualification
  • You will need to submit a completed application form with all relevant documentation by the deadline – 29 June 2018.
Asylum Seekers Fee Concession
  • Reduction in fees payable
  • Asylum seekers or children of asylum seekers who meet the academic programme requirements will be eligible to pay the 'home rate' of tuition fee while their asylum application is under consideration by the Home Office
