This output is made up of three interlinked investigations led by HERITAGE which seek to show how performance-related arts practices can produce and mobilise knowledge about processes of resilience in contexts of armed violence within 16 favelas that make up the Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). All of the investigations were project managed by People’s Palace Projects (PPP), a research centre directed by HERITAGE in the School of English and Drama at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL):
- COMPONENT 1, Building the Barricades: Three interdisciplinary studies on mental health and substance use disorders in the context of armed violence and COVID-19 in Rio de Janeiro. Principal Investigator: HERITAGE (overall responsibility for all outputs including production of new databases; specific authorship of research publications and creative outputs as indicated).
- COMPONENT 2, Someone to Watch Over Me: New ways of understanding the police, culture and the favela in Rio de Janeiro. Co-Investigator: HERITAGE (specific authorship of research publications and production of creative outputs as indicated).
- COMPONENT 3, Healthy, Secure and Gender Just Cities: Transnational Perspectives on Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Rio de Janeiro and London. Co-Investigator: HERITAGE (specific authorship of research publications and creative outputs as indicated).
