Barbara Petrongolo’s work on Economic Consequences of Family Policies (joint with Claudia Olivetti), has been featured in the New York Times. The article debates the terms of paid parental leave and devising effective family policies in the United States, with Barbara’s research suggesting little evidence that extended parental leave has a positive effect on women’s employment or earnings - but that subsidized child care and preschool does.
