Profile

Dr Alejandro Riaño is a Visiting Teaching Fellow in Economics at Queen Mary University of London in the School of Economics and Finance since 2023.

Alejandro teaches International Trade (ECN228) to Year 2 undergraduate students in Economics. This module seeks to introduce students to the major economic theories of international trade and to provide them with a balanced perspective about the benefits and costs that greater international integration entails for countries and individuals and firms within them. The module is organised under three key themes: (i) the pattern of trade between countries; (ii) firms in international trade and (iii) commercial policy.

Alejandro is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Economics at City St George’s University of London and previously has worked at the University of Nottingham and the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. Alejandro is a research fellow of CESifo and the Nottingham Centre for Research on Globalisation and Economic Policy (GEP) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Alejando has been a consultant for the World Bank evaluating the effectiveness of export promotion policies in developing countries like the Dominican Republic, Nepal and Pakistan. His research explores how individuals and firms adjust to globalisation. His work has been published in top general interest and field journals in economics including the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Development Economics, the European Economic Review, World Bank Economic Review among others.
