The right to exist
Formation about gender diversity seems something essential to discuss in any place. We need to get rid of deep-rooted prejudices, these prejudices that were historically constructed by various words propagated in society. Otherwise, we will be going to disastrous levels of physical and moral violence. Violence directed at the LGBT group is commonplace in our society.
The conditions for the existence of this violence are centred in the political and religious reality of our country, considering that the bench of federal deputies is composed in large part by evangelicals. According to IBGE data, the number of deputies grew along with the number of faithful. This number was estimated at 61% in the last decade (2000-2010). In this way, these deputies deliberate in favour of religious precepts and conservatism.
The experience of LGBT people has long been officially silenced, like the Hermaphrodites who were burned at the stake in the Middle Ages. However, in the midst of many struggles, many rights were won – among them, the right to homosexual marriage.
So we note that the path to recognition and respect is still long. Among the other ways to achieve this respect that we are striving for, we emphasize the need for dialogue on the subject, because we understand that ignorance is the root cause of this prejudice.
