This session will give an introduction to modern Automatic Speech Recognition systems and using them in your research. Focusing specifically on WhisperX, which combines OpenAI Whisper with other tools and models to improve alignment between transcript and audio, we'll consider the possibilities, challenges and limitations of ASR, with reference to case studies of ASR usage in research. We'll cover how also explore how to process ASR-generated transcripts, convert them to file types more commonly used in linguistic research, and what to think about when you're check ASR transcripts.
