Project Description

Low-dimensional materials (0D, 1D, and 2D nanomaterials) and their heterostructures  have a range of physicochemical properties that make them excellent candidates for scalable technologies in the fields of optoelectronics, (bio)sensing, and energy. In this context, nanofabrication techniques and self-assembly strategies can allow us to control the organization, on surfaces, of nanostructures of interest for optoelectronic and sensing applications.

We are looking for a PhD candidate with, or expecting to be awarded, a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or Materials Science, preferably with previous knowledge in functional. materials . In this project the researcher will be working in the group of Prof. Matteo Palma (https://research.sbcs.qmul.ac.uk/m.palma/) to explore the employment of molecular linkers as templates and functional moieties to develop strategies for the assembly of 2D and 1D nanomaterials into static and dynamic nanohybrid systems and devices. Novel device functionality will be achieved by interfacing complex molecules and nanostructures. where the junction moieties will be acting as functional building blocks in our nanoelectronic devices. We will provide a personalised mentorship, including working towards different career choices following the PhD. We are also happy to discuss potential applications informally (contact Prof Palma : m.palma@qmul.ac.uk ).

To apply please send your CV, cover letter and the contact details of two referees.
