Queen Mary School Hainan is one of the youngest and most ambitious Transnational Education initiatives in China. Launched by Queen Mary University of London in partnership with the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) in the Hainan province, Queen Mary School Hainan offers truly unique, pioneering, high-quality undergraduate degree programmes in Information and Computational Science and Digital Media Technology. Both programmes provide an excellent preparation for aspiring professionals who can use the computational, mathematical and statistical approaches and the latest technologies that are needed in today’s digital, data-driven society.
Queen Mary School Hainan is led by the Data Science and Engineering Research Group in SPCS, which is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The Data Science and Engineering Research Group has amongst its members mathematicians, data scientists, computer scientists, multimedia engineers, linguists, learning designers and educationalists, who are at the forefront of their field and research and have an unbounded passion for teaching. Their scientific expertise and authentic enthusiasm for teaching is reflected in the excellent education that our students at Queen Mary School Hainan receive.
In addition to an excellent scientific and technical preparation, our students at Queen Mary School Hainan develop the skills and abilities that they will need to succeed in today’s globalised world. Teaching is split between Queen Mary and BUPT and students are taught and assessed in English. Queen Mary’s staff are based in London, where they conduct research and scholarship work, and deliver their teaching following the flying-faculty model. Queen Mary School Hainan graduates will receive two degrees, one from each university.
