The Astronomy Unit has jointly topped the Research Group category at the biennial SEPnet Public Engagement awards, being one of only two groups chosen as “Highly Commended”.

SEPnet noted how the QMUL Astronomy Unit has embedded outreach and public engagement within the culture of the group. Over the last year, the AU has been expanding its astronomy engagement efforts, running activities and telescope tours at numerous School and University events, such as QM Futures, the Festival of Communities, and The Great Science Share for Schools, as well as continuing the success of the Planet Hunting with Python project as part of the Physics Research in Schools Environments (PRiSE) programme. Another highlight was delivering a series of five recorded talks (now with over half a million views between them) at the Royal Institution to which we were also able to fund one hundred pupils from our contact schools to attend in person, see here for the videos.
