Project Description

This project will use data from the Belle 2 experiment at KEK in Japan to search for discrete symmetry violations, specifically T

(time-reversal) violation, CP (matter antimatter asymmetry) violation and the combined CPT violation.  The data sample to be used comprises pairs of entangled neutral B mesons created in collisions at a centre of mass energy of 10.58 GeV. To maximise the sensitivity AI tools will be used to enhance event selection.  Detailed studies of decays into leading order processes such as J/Psi KS and J/Psi KL enable us to access sin2 beta measurements via T and CP asymmetries, where CPT asymmetries is expected to be compatible with zero. Any deviations from these expectations would signify physics beyond the standard model of particle physics, and any CPT violation discovery would have profound ramifications for our understanding of modern physics.
