Profile

Eda Duranay is a researcher in the Chemistry Department at Queen Mary University of London. She completed her B.Sc. studies in Food Engineering and Chemical Engineering at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2021. During this time, she developed a profound interest in exploring sustainable solutions to global environmental challenges and she was awarded a research scholarship by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). In 2023, she obtained her M.Sc. degree in Chemical Biotechnology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with a scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).  There, she gained more experience in polymer processing, material characterization, environmental microbiology, and sustainable practices.

 

In 2024, she joined Prof. Marina Resmini’s research group at Queen Mary University of London, where she started her Ph.D. as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Fellow on the GreenX3 project. Her research, in collaboration with industrial partner Notpla Limited, explores algae-based plastic product formulations, evaluating their stability under various environmental conditions and analysing the chemistry of resulting fragments to better understand their environmental impact.

Research Interests:

My research interests are centred on the development of novel algae-based biomaterials with a specific focus on their biodegradation processes and environmental impact under different scenarios.
