Quantum Technology and Gravitational Waves

The convergence of AI and quantum technologies offers a unique opportunity to accelerate diverse applications, as well as unlocking new capabilities for fundamental science. At Queen Mary we have a strong research activity exploring molecular quantum materials for applications in quantum sensing and quantum computing and are also developing quantum algorithms for gravitational wave detection and to solve problems in theoretical physics.  

Examples of QM staff working in this field: 

  • Dr Junjie Liu is a Royal Society University Research Fellow and Lecturer in Quantum Technology who specializes in spin dynamics and quantum information processing in molecules and semiconductors. He works on physical implementations of quantum error correction protocols 
  • Dr Hong Qi works on applications of quantum computing to gravitational wave data science. 
  • Dr Masanori Hanada works on applications of quantum computing to problems in theoretical physics.
