Strategic Hires in Science and Engineering

Transport, Sustainable Energy and Electronics

Queen Mary has been at the heart of technology and innovation in intelligent transport systems, sustainable energy, analogue and digital electronic devices and systems, collaborating with academic and industrial partners working nationally and globally. Our research output has made a significant impact to the UK through developing new technologies, supply chains and job creation through spinout activities.

Examples of QM staff working in this field:

  • Professor Sergey Karabasov is an internationally leading expert in aeroacoustics. His research interests include high-resolution and multiscale methods in computational fluid dynamics, data-driven physically insightful models for flow and noise generation, and aeroacoustic design optimisation.
  • Dr Jun Chen is working closely with industries and regulatory bodies to produce guidance on safe, secure and successful adoption of AI technologies in Aeronautical systems, in particular for ground-based systems.
  • Prof Ana Sobrido holds a prestigious UKRI Future Leader Fellowship. Her research focuses on the development of new sustainable materials for energy storage and conversion applications. Her group develops new materials for devices including redox flow batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells and water electrolysers.
  • Prof Xi Jiang has expertise is primarily in Energy/Environmental Engineering Applications, using Advanced Modelling/Simulation. The Applications include cleaner combustion utilisation of alternative and sustainable fuels, combustion under extreme conditions, geological carbon storage.
