This module considers specific cognitive functions and properties of the human mind. The material will cover perception, attentional processes, language and knowledge representation, memory mechanisms, problem-solving and expertise, and the relationships and links between processes. Studies from classical and modern cognitive psychology will be provided throughout.

This module is designed to give students an overview of the current state of knowledge in the different topic areas of cognitive psychology (perception, attention, language, memory and problem solving). It will further introduce students to the use of experimental methods for exploring research questions in this area.

Course prerequisite:
It is recommended that students taking this module have previously studied introductory-level psychology or are enrolled on an equivalent course. Good numerical and English language skills are essential. A-level equivalent knowledge of psychology is beneficial.
