Video

Use the video embed content type to add a YouTube or Vimeo video to your page. It's really important that you use this content type when embedding videos, as otherwise your videos won't be accessible.

Video example

This is what an embedded video looks like on T4. Note - if you want to have a heading and/or supporting text alongside the video, use the video card content type instead.

Steps

Step one - find the video ID

  • Find and copy the video ID from YouTube or Vimeo.

The YouTube ID is the code after the '=' sign in the URL. This is in bold in the following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBt7Is0noh4

The Vimeo ID is the code after the final '/' sign in the URL. This is in bold in the following: https://vimeo.com/97415838

Step two - create the content type

  • Create the video embed type in the chosen section by pressing the green button '+ Add content'.
  • Select 'video embed' in the content type list. If it is not there, type it in the content type search bar and it should appear.
  • Once done, you can add the video ID into the relevant content field.

Step three - publish the content

  • Once the video content type is saved and approved, publish the video content type in the (child) section you created, and then the section itself.

Accessibility tip

Always use the video embed content type, rather than embedding the code directly from YouTube. The YouTube embed code isn't accessible. The ‘video embed’ content type allows you to add a clear title, which means screen readers will be able to explain to users who are partially sighted what the embedded object is.
