Upload images

Prepare your images first

You will find it easier if you prepare your images and upload them to the media library before editing your courses.

Save for the web

Big files slow down our site, so always try to 'save for web'. Essentially, this means reducing the size of the image file, without reducing the image quality.

You can do this easily using free tools like PixlrRead this article on optimising and cropping with Pixlr to get started.

Upload images as JPEGs

In most cases, images should be uploaded as JPEG files in the media library. JPEGs are smaller than PNGs, and smaller files are better for our loading times.

As a general rule, JPEGs should be used for photos. PNGs should only be used for graphics or if your image has transparency.

Use descriptive filenames

Image filenames should be descriptive and lowercase, with no spaces, as they form the URL of your image. So 'blizard-building' is much better than 'IMG-245922'. This will be good for SEO, as labelling your images will help Google figure out what is on your page.

Course header images

These are the long, thin images that appear at the top of each course page.

Course header images must be 1500 pixels wide by 350 pixels tall. Close-ups of objects or people are usually unsuitable.

Student profile images

Student profile images appear mid-way down course pages alongside a student testimonial. They should be a headshot that is 300 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall.

Accreditation logos

Add logos for any professional accreditation your course has. This is a great way of communicating visually what sets your course apart.

Save any logos so they are 70 pixels tall.
