Technician commitment

Technician commitment

The Technician Commitment is a UK wide initiative.  It was launched to ensure visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for all technicians working in higher education and research, across all disciplines.  The commitment is led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Technicians Make It Happen campaign.

I am delighted to support the Technician Commitment Action Plans developed at Queen Mary University of London.

At the heart of this Strategy is the Queen Mary community and, naturally, our technical colleagues are part of that and will play a pivotal role in delivering and achieving our strategic objectives. These action plans are one aspect of our continuing commitment to support, develop and nurture our people so that they can be the best they can be.

Queen Mary pledges action to support technical staff

In 2018 Queen Mary become a signatory of the Technician Commitment.  A working group made up of technical representatives from all three Faculties, as well as Academic and Central Professional Services representatives developed an initial 24 month action plan.  Following delays caused by coronavirus, in June 2022 Queen Mary assessed the impact of our initial action plan in a progress report and, using feedback from our technical staff, created a new plan covering the next 36 months.  Both the report and new action plan have been signed off by the Principal, Professor Colin Bailey, The University Senior Executive Team and the Technician Commitment Nominated Institutional Lead, Anne Parry.
